The British Red Cross - Bradford, UK - is urgently looking for a volunteer. Important - Applicants for this project have to live in Spain, Uruguay or Costa- Rica.
Project description:
The project will offer a volunteer the opportunity to be involved in the following areas of Red Cross work:
- Refugee & Vulnerable Migrant Support
- Community Based First Aid
- International Tracing & Messaging
- Youth & Schools
The volunteer will be supervised by the Refugee and Vulnerable Migrant Service Coordinator who will provide a full induction into the service and support relating to volunteer work with the British Red Cross. The role of the volunteer will be to work alongside BRC staff and volunteers delivering services to the public. British Red Cross volunteers have the opportunity to undertake various relevant training courses to improve their skills and increase their awareness of relevant issues. The volunteer will have the opportunity to interpret and translate information if they have relevant language skills. In the project the volunteer will be offered some choice of activity.
Participant profile:
We would like volunteers applying for this project to have experience and/or motivation of working with refugees, asylum seekers and other vulnerable migrants in need of support. It is particularly interesting to us if a volunteer has an interest in or knowledge of immigration law and essential that they are prepared to learn about immigration law and the UK welfare system. We are looking for an enthusiastic volunteer with a mature outlook who is keen to develop their skills and prepared to travel and attend training as required for the role. It is vital that the volunteer has good interpersonal skills and the ability to work with vulnerable people in a sensitive way. There are no special qualifications needed to participate as full training on all elements will be given. We are particularly keen to hear from applicants with good English language and IT skills. Knowledge of one or more of the following languages will also be considered an advantage:
Languages spoken in A2/A8 EU states/French/Farsi/Arabic/Swahili /Urdu/Kurdish/Mandarin.
The main characteristics we are looking for in this placement are volunteers who:

prepared to work in accordance with the Fundamental Principles of humanity, impartiality, universality, volunteering, neutrality, independence and unity.
- Enjoy meeting people from a wide range of backgrounds
- Are interested in helping to support people at times of crisis
in their lives
- Are caring, compassionate, patient & tactful
