We are an informal group called "Count me In
(ben de varim)" that design projects to increase mutual understanding between European cultures and Turkey. We have organised several local and international projects before. We try to include underprivileged youth from rural background to give the a chance to meet different cultures and a hope to become someone one day. Nature walks, historic visits and discussions, music lessons are some of our themes we worked on so far. We want to give young people not only formal education, but also passion for life and a hope. With this particular project, we aim to celebrate our differences through legends and folk stories. The spot we want to carry out the project is very suitable to refect multi-culturalism itself. It is Kaz Mountain (or MOunt Ida or the Mount of the Goddess)and it hosts several different stories; some belongs to ancient greeks, some to the local turkish people. The place is also a national park and a must see for visitors of the area. The main activites will be exchangin the stories and legends between the participants, who will bring their own materials to tell the stories. By this, we will give our young participants the idea of nature and environment alongside with history. We will also discover the herbs that legends mention, even find them there if we can. In addition, we will contact local musicians to give examples of the folk music so that the cultural mosaic can be completed. We will spend a lot of time in workshops trying to discover each other. We can even organise simple dramas to act the legends of other countries.
All participants will have a notebook with them wihich they record their feelings since they arrive and in the end of the project we will ask them if they any different opinion in the end. What they have learned and how this trip change their look into history, other cultures and humanity.
