Project organized jointly by the Association "InformaGiovani" (YouthInformation) and the social co-operative company "ApritiCuore" (Open your heart). The latter deals with social inclusion of disadvantaged youth in the western part of Sicily and since some years manage in Torretta, some 30 km far from Palermo, a villa which was confiscated to a mafia boss. The villa is now used to host teenagers who are assisted by public social services. The participants in the exchange will take part in different activities connected to raise awareness on active citizenship, the role of youth in promoting social inclusion and countering organized crime.
The programme will include: 5 half days helping in managing the villa (paint of the wall, clean of the garden), 3 trips to the seaside and/or natural reserves, 4 trips to "places of memory" connected to the antimafia movement and a visit to Palermo, meeting with a member of the antimafia investigation office of Palermo, meeting with journalists and/or representatives of the antimafia movement.
Financial conditions: the participants will get 85% of travel reimbursement. Each sending organization will receive 480 Euro.
Number of participants: we expect to have 4 national groups (including the Italian one) composed each of 4 participants plus one leader. An advanced planning visit is foreseen 3-4 weeks before the exchange take place. Please note that some of the participants will stay in tends (but will use the house for cooking and bathing and WCing...)
