Activities:
8-days Training Course Distorted Realities concentrates on media
representations, media audiences and media effects, influences of media images on our perceptions of various social problems and identities. Press, television and film will be studied in terms of their depiction of individuals, institutions and issues. Case studies will include representations of male and female roles, body images, people with different sexual orientation, sexual violence, victims of domestic violence, abortions, people living with HIV and AIDS letting the participants to discover how cultural, social, economical and political contexts influence production and interpretation of media messages and how media create and distort human realities. The course aims to advance media literacy - the ability to interpret, understand and evaluate media and its messages and to produce media content. The program will strengthen critical thinking skills of the participants and give organizations knowledge and tools needed to utilize media resources and tools for combating social problems and social exclusion in particular.
