Aims of the course:
The main aim of the residential training course “Ahead for Convivència” is to support the development of youth activities combating mistrust and social exclusion with a local-national- European impact. The course focuses on developing competences in organising youth activities bringing together Rroma and non Rroma communities working for social cohesion. The six days long residential training course will bring together a balanced group of 12
Rroma and non-Rroma youth leaders and educators from youth organisations. Above all, the course is the opportunity to meet diversity in all its meanings, to address human rights issues and the opportunity to build intercultural dialogue among youth organisations
and civil society in Europe.
Methodology:
The course is designed to create the space were participants experience and reflect upon activities and concepts central to human rights education based on experiential learning approaches. Reflection and meta-reflection on the methodological aspects will be specially addressed as main aim of this specific training course. The course is also designed as a space for mutual learning, where participants exchange their approaches to training and share best practices in a dialogical intercultural approach and environment.
The training course will be fully implemented in English.
Profile of the participants:
The Training Course is designed for youth leaders, educators and multipliers working with young people from both Rroma and non-Rroma communities, or wishing to do so. They should be ready to act as multipliers and are requested to be able to fully participate in
English language. Participants will be ranging from 20 to 35 years old though exceptions could be done in specific cases. Candidates from Spain, Italy, France, Bulgaria and Hungary are welcomed to apply. Interested applicants from other countries, please contact the organisers. In the selection procedure, experience in the field, follow up development and motivation will be specially taken into account.
Participants are expected to have high degree of tolerance, respect, empathy and readiness for a meaningful intercultural learning experience.
Team of trainers
The programme of the course is designed and conducted by a multicultural team, including Rroma and non-Rroma, experienced trainers from the Youth Directorate of the Council of Europe. They will be complemented by resource experts for specific parts of the course.
Deadline and Application procedure
The preparatory team will select 12 participants on the basis of the profile outlined above and ensuring a balanced group (gender, geographical regions, different types of experiences, cultural backgrounds and organisations). A waiting list may be established.
All candidates will be informed about whether their application has been accepted or rejected, and if they have put on the waiting list, by the end of September. Selected candidates will receive the course documentation and further technical and educational information directly from the organisers.
Travel expenses
The 70 % of travel expenses are reimbursed (on presentation of the relevant receipts). Participants must choose the cheapest travel option. The Commission solely reimburses public transport costs. Only the participants who attend the entire training course can be reimbursed. Participants are expected to arrive on Saturday the 30th October evening. The departure will be on Saturday the 6th November 2010 morning.
Accommodation
Board and lodging for the duration of the Training Course will be provided and fully paid for by the Organisers.
Enrolment fee
An enrolment fee of 35 € for participants coming from Spain, Italy and France and 15€ for participants from Hungary and Bulgaria countries is payable by each participant. This amount will be deducted from the amount to be reimbursed for travel expenses or paid at the beginning of the TC.
