Summary:
“Learning to pay it forward” is a 3 phase programme which aims to explore and promote peer education approaches within the youth field, by reflecting on practices and developing young peoples´ competencies to support other young people.
Target group:
Youth leaders, Young people (age 18-30) with previous experience of youth exchange and/or youth initiative projects.
For participants from: EU MEMBER STATES, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland.
Group size: 22 participants.
Details:
“Learning to pay it forward” is a special peer education programme that aims to explore and promote peer education approaches within the youth field, by reflecting on practices and further developing the competencies acquired by young people in YIA projects and creating opportunities for them to apply these in supporting other young people. The programme “Learning to pay it forward” consists of 3 phases, including two residential trainings and practical phase in between. Through participating in this process, young people will be supported to:
In first phase – training course in Estonia (29.10-3.11.2012):
• share their project experiences;
• reflect on the learning from their own project experiences;
• develop the learning to learn competence;
• understand the essence and potential of peer education;
• build their own peer education competences;
• identify the opportunities to apply their peer education competences for the benefit of other young people in their communities.
In second phase – practice in home country (November 2012 – March 2013):
• initiating and implementing the peer education process in their community;
• explore and reflect on their role as a peer educator;
• receive and give support and feedback in “Learning to pay it forward” process.
In third phase – evaluation meeting in Sweden (6.-9.03.2013):
• collect and share different examples of peer education based on their experiences (phase 2);
• further reflect on their learning as peer educators;
• clarify and deepen the understanding of peer education in youth projects;
• transfer the learning for their own personal and professional development and the development of the communities.
Further: Young peoples´ future in the peer education!
Important extras:
• Knowhow and experiences created throughout this programme will be documented and shared in creative way.
• Youth pass process will be part of the programme and in the end of the programme participants will receive the Youth pass.
Target group of “Learning to pay it forward” programme is:
• young people (age 18-30 “Learning to pay it forward” programme has an age limit of 30 years due to the nature of the peer education and Youth in Action Programme rules for youth projects) with previous experience of youth exchange and/or youth initiative projects;
• able to communicate and work in English;
• willing and motivated to multiply peer learning experience;
• committed to participate in full programme.
Costs:
This programme is financed by the Youth in Action Programme. Being selected for this course, all costs (accommodation, travel, etc.) relevant to participation in the course will be covered by the NAs involved in this project - except a participation fee which varies from call to call and country to country. Before applying please contact the NA of your residence country to check if it is involved in this concrete project and committed to cover travel costs.
